Senior(Supervisory) Staff at Lake Greeley Camp

What is Senior Staff at Lake Greeley Camp?

The senior staff at Greeley are those positions that oversee different aspects of camp life during the summer. Whether it is managing cabins as a division director or managing and taking care of an activity site like our target sports area or athletics, there are many responsibilities that we place upon our senior staff to ensure that the camp runs smoothly. Senior Staff members are ambassadors for camp in daily camp life, having a direct impact on the goings on, maintenance and overall quality of operation in which the camp is run. As a result, we have high expectations for those who join us under the umbrella with senior staff.

The qualities of someone that we are looking for to fill a role in Senior Staff is someone who wants to see the best experience delivered to the customer, the campers who attend. This is a person who cares about the service we are rendering, the care that we are giving, and realizes that this experience is not for ourselves solely. We are also looking for people who have confidence in the area that they are looking after, whether that be an activity area or a division of campers and counselors. With providing that kind of supervision, you are not only thinking about lessons or activities or looking after cabins and maintenance, but you are also looking after the care and status of those areas of camp. You are responsible for the operation of that area so you need to look after supplies, the status of equipment, if there are repairs or replacements needed and report to that the appropriate people so that they can be performed or ordered.

What are some duties as Senior Staff or What makes Senior Staff different than a counselor?

The schedule we have at Lake Greeley Camp is designed to keep everyone moving, motivated and encourage activity. There is little downtime scheduled in the day and there are only some activities such as pool and lake where campers would sign up for an activity for the purpose of relaxing and just laying by the pool for example. As a result, the days are already pretty busy and as a senior staff they are even more so.

Senior Staff have additional duties that are performed during the summer that you will not find counselors doing. For example, there are morning meetings that senior staff will attend to discuss certain topics or prepare for the upcoming days in camp. It is important to attend these meetings as there are important aspects to be aware of.

Another area of responsibility are trips off camp such as our Railrider baseball trip in Scranton, PA or our camp trip to Dorney Park in Bethelehm, PA. These trips off camp are fun times for campers and staff, but carry no less the risk than what you have while on camp. In fact, there is even more of a need to be watchful and observant. That is why we have senior staff go on these trips so that they can provide that level of supervision.

These are just a couple examples of the level of responsibility the senior staff has in camp and work that we do during the summer. We encourage anyone with a desire to challenge themselves and have an incredible summer experience to think about a senior staff position that might be right for them.
