The daily schedule at Lake Greeley Camp is designed to keep campers and staff moving from sun up to sun down.
Wake Up
We start our days with reverie at 7:30 AM, where the campers will have some time to get ready and be out of the cabin for our morning flagpole. Flagpole, for us, is an important time of the day because it allows everyone in camp, campers, counselors, and senior staff to be aware of what events are happening in the schedule for that day and for the days ahead.
Flagpole
After flagpole, we separate into a couple groups for breakfast or activity sign up. These groups will include our Juniors who will always have breakfast at this time and either the Intermediates or Senior divisions. While one of the older divisions is having breakfast, the other is going through activity sign up making their schedules of activities for the day ahead. Then, we rotate those divisions so that everyone has breakfast and everyone has activities to do.
Breakfast and Activity Sign up
After breakfast and activity sign up, we have cabin clean up time. This is a time we give cabins to clean up their bunks by making beds, cleaning their areas, sweeping dust out, taking out trash, etc. A clean cabin is a healthy cabin! We want the counselors and kids in those bunks to feel like they have ownership of the space that they are in, but with that comes responsibliity for keeping it clean and tidy. You are responsible for the area you are in and you can be accountable for keeping it clean.
Morning Activities and Lunch
Then, we get into activities for the morning. We have two activity periods at this time that are about an hour long each. With our activities, we measure instruction with play so that we try to implement what we learn into something fun and interesting. Competitions are a great way to bring that out, but they are not forced on the campers and they are only there to reinforce good habits and good learning practice. Activities first and foremost should be safe and fun to participate in.
Afternoon Activities and Evening Program
After lunch and rest hour, we have four more activities to do and then we conclude the day with dinner and an evening activity.
Why Do It This Way?
We want the schedule to be full of opportunity for campers to experience an assortment of activities and to be able to have the time to take part in the activities so that they can learn and play. We feel that this also helps alleviate that feeling of homesickness by looking forward to future events in our schedule. In short, the summer is only so long and campers only have so much time at camp, so we want to make use of every moment possible.
