The intermediate division is our middle division with the age group of 10 through 12 for the campers in camp. Being a little older than the juniors, the intermediates begin to experience some more freedom in the camp and begin to make their own decisions about how they want to spend their time within their session at camp. The way they do that is explained below.
The Elective Program
The intermediates (and seniors) operate with the Elective Program in Lake Greeley Camp for the daily schedule each day there are activity periods scheduled. The campers will go through the elective program every morning where the intermediates and seniors choose the activities they want to participate in for that particular day. Each day can be different and we encourage different activities each and every day to give campers and staff variety and something to look forward to in the schedule.
You can have special clinics for beginners at tennis or you can have a special raft crafting session at the lake. There can be specific projects at arts and crafts for the social that is coming up that week for the social's theme. There can be many different things during the course of a particular day and each day changes from one to another. It keeps summer camp fun, interesting, and new!
Cabin Clean-Up
Living in the cabins at camp doesn't mean those cabins will be clean throughout a session. The campers are going to need to pitch in and help each other in maintaining the cabin with the oversight of the counselors in the cabin. Campers and counselors will work together using a chore chart for each day of camp and will have different responsibilities such as sweeping the cabin, making their beds and cleaning and organizing their area of the cabin, taking out the trash in the cabin, etc.
Cleaning may not seem all that fun on its own, but there's a great reward for those who clean the best. The cabins will be looked over by the Division Director who will make the cabin aware of improvements that would need to be made and grade the cabin on a point scale. The boys and girls cabins who have the highest points at the end of the week will have a pizza party from a local pizzeria!
Evening Activities
With the daily activities being done through the Elective Program, evening activities operate a little differently in that they can be a campwide activity or division specific. Check out our evening activity calendar to see the kinds of activities the kids will be involved in during their sessions in the summer. As mentioned previously in the elective program section, you can have a social with a certain theme or a pool party, cabin skits, and much more. With evening activities, there are also daily activities we encourage the campers to get involved in as well.
With all these activities going on, we encourage you to look through the activities in preparing for camp because you can pack certain clothing or props for those events. We encourage as much participation as possible and if more people participate, the more fun the activity becomes!
Goals for Intermediates
There are a lot of activities and events for intermediate campers to get involved with, but why send your child to camp if they fall within this division? Unlike the juniors and seniors, the intermediate division is unique in that the children are at an age where we entrust responsibility but we still guide them in the decisions they are making.
We want the very best for the campers when they come to camp and each division has different needs that must be met in order to fulfill that goal.
We encourage exploration, learning, trial and error, not being afraid to make mistakes, doing something new every day and in this way, the intermediates expand their skills and meet many new people in camp developing relationships that they can take with them throughout the year along the way.
